Circling Iceland

Trip planning and overview of the trip Circling Iceland where I take a weeklong road trip around country 136.

Ah Iceland… The name evokes images of steaming hot springs among snowcapped mountains lit by an aurora borealis. With a unique natural environment combining lava fields, mountains, glaciers, and sea, Iceland has been high on my list for a long time. Interestingly, the country has the lowest population density of any country in Europe which accentuates its unspoiled setting.

Busy with a project in Sardinia, I’ve been itching to hop on a plane and explore a new destination. Iceland was an obvious choice. Working with some great sponsors, I’ve organized a frantic weeklong road trip around the entire country to visit the highlights and briefly experience what this far off island has to offer.

Some areas I would like to visit are:
– Reykjavik the capital
– The Golden Circle with stops at Thingvellir, Geysir, and the Gullfoss Waterfall
– Vik with its Black Sand Beach and Dyrholaey
– Landmannalaugar
– Maelifell
– Vatnajokull National Park with Skaftafell’s ice cave
– Jokulsarlon Glacial Lagoon
– Breiddalsvik
– Mývatn
– Akureyri
– Húsavík for some whale watching

Finally tomorrow I would visit country 136.
