Highlights

  • Elegant rooms and interiors.
  • One of the country’s best spa facilities.
  • Gorgeous outdoor pool area.
  • Central location on the island close to the President’s Palace and botanical gardens.
  • Wide variety of fine and casual dining.

Background

The Corinthia Palace Hotel & Spa’s classical architecture is a stunning homage to Malta’s culture which includes influences from Phoenicians, Sicilians, Romans, and even the British. This is the first hotel opened by the Pisani family in 1962 and is now one of many hotels all over Europe managed by Corinthia Hotels International Limited which is still run by Alfred Pisani.

Experience

Fifteen minutes from the international airport the hotel is somewhat centrally located on the island. The UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Valletta and Mdina are both within a 10 minute drive and the prehistoric temple sites are between 5km and 20km away.

The Corinthia Palace Hotel & Spa is deceivingly large with 150 rooms and 9 Executive Suites, which isn’t apparent on entry to the hotel. Each room has a view of the perfectly manicured gardens from its own private balcony which is a perfect way to start the day with a cup of coffee. I stayed in the Deluxe King Room which was more than spacious and filled with plush furniture. There is also LCD TVs with local and international channels, movies on demand, complimentary wireless internet, and a mini bar which are standard in every room.

The Executive Suites are double the size which is perfect for informal meetings with clients or entertaining guests in the separate living area, lounge or on the private terrace complete with sun loungers.

The Corinthia Palace Hotel & Spa has more than enough options to satisfy discerning diners. The newest addition to the lineup is The Summer Kitchen which just opened in May. Award-winning chefs use the freshest ingredients in creative ways to bring a twist to classic favorites like homemade pizza, fresh pastas, and grilled meats. Morning and evening meals are served outside in the gardens to take advantage of the Mediterranean summer.

For a more exotic taste the Rickshaw is a great option for award winning dining. This popular restaurant is inspired by Thailand, Japan, China and Singapore. It also serves a range of beers, spirits, and cocktails from the Far East which perfectly complements the cuisine.

The flagship restaurant of Corinthia Palace Hotel & Spa is Villa Corinthia which brings fine dining to a new level. The renovated 100-year old villa features marble floors, white linen tablecloths, and impeccable service to create a memorable dining experience. Each dish on the menu includes locally sourced and sustainable seafood. Villa Corinthia also serves British afternoon tea every Sunday. Afternoon tea is also served at the Orange Grove Brasserie which has become a favorite meeting spot for visitors and locals alike.

After wrapping up the evening meal many guests head over to the Caprice Lounge Bar for a relaxing nightcap. The bar has an extensive list of whiskeys and brandies which have been carefully selected with connoisseurs and aficionados in mind. It also has access to the Caprice Wine Garden where guests can enjoy fine wine vintages in the cool evening air.

No stay at the Corinthia Palace Hotel & Spa is complete without sampling the Athenaeum Spa. There’s a variety of treatments available which focus both on internal and external beauty for a whole body experience. The spa also includes access to the outdoor pool, jacuzzi, hydrotherapy pool and sauna. Guests who live a more active lifestyle also have access to Pulse Fitness which is considered one of Malta’s leading health facilities. Every piece of equipment is state-of-the-art. There’s also a separate aerobic room where classes are offered every morning and afternoon.

For those in Malta on business, the Corinthia Palace Hotel & Spa offers conference and meeting facilities that can accommodate any group size. The largest is the Chameleon Room which can hold up to 450 people for receptions or large conferences; it’s also a sought after wedding venue for an elegant setting for the special day. Event planners are on staff to make sure all needs are met, including catering from one of the hotel’s restaurants and audio visual equipment.

The staff at Corinthia Palace Hotel & Spa was spectacular. Everyone was warm and welcoming. The superb hospitality contributed to the grandeur of the hotel for a royal residence feel.

The Corinthia Palace Hotel & Spa perfectly embodies the Malta experience with its historic villa, architecture and distinctive service. A stay at the Corinthia Palace Hotel & Spa highly recommended and not to be missed!
