Experience

The Divota Apartment Hotel offers guests a chance to stay in a renovated room or apartment in a historic building in Split, Croatia. Ideal for long term and short term stays, the hotel is nestled within the Veli Varoš neighborhood, once home to farm laborers. The lanes are densely lined with modest houses which maintain the quaint Mediterranean atmosphere.

Arriving from Sarajevo, we walked from the main bus station into the old city. The apartments are individually located around the neighborhood so finding the place was a bit tricky at first. Following a windy path, we found the apartment situated privately behind other houses.

From the outside the Divota Apartments seemed like the typical traditional stone houses common to Split. However, on entering the modest house the interior spaces was very modern and luxurious. Our apartment had a small terrace out front with seating and a table. Inside the studio room had a large bed facing the kitchen with an oven, washing machine, sink and coffee making facilities. A desk and wardrobe stood to the right.

Having a “home away from home” and the ability to cook meals is a comfortable change from a typical hotel stay.

The bathroom was very modern and complete with a sink, washing machine, shower/tub combination and toilet.

There are nine apartments and six rooms available to guests at two locations. The apartments are along Vijugasta Street and Kovacica Street. All units are studios featuring full kitchens, washing machine, free wireless internet, mini bar, cable TV, iPod docking station, maid service, basic toiletries and complimentary coffee and tea. Each apartment has its own charm and unique layout. For a larger group House 800 features three bedrooms on two floors, all the standard amenities, two bathrooms, living room, dining room, two terraces and a private courtyard with a barbecue. For shorter term stays rooms with similar comforts are offered at the traditional Dalmatian house which now serves as the main hotel and reception. Each room centers around a shared courtyard on three floors.

The Divota Apartments are conveniently located close to public transportation including the ferry port which connects Split with the touristic Adriatic islands. The beach is also nearby. As the hotel is located in the pedestrian zone, parking is available close by outside of the zone.

From the apartment, we accessed all the city sites nearby include Roman Emperor Diocletian’s Palace and Cathedral of Saint Domnius which are just some of the structures within the designated UNESCO World Heritage site.

Service at the front desk was especially accommodating. The attendant waited three hours after they were closed in order to process our check-in after hours! She was still graceful and friendly even with such a long wait. She also gave us some helpful information to visit the city. The maid service was on par with any luxury hotel with our room being prepared when we returned from sightseeing.

The 4-star apartments and rooms make for a relaxing place to slow down and enjoy the sun.I would recommend the Divota Apartment Hotel to anyone traveling through Split.
