Experience: Hilton Alger

Highlights

  • Peaceful beachside location.
  • Great service, concierge and reception.
  • Complementary airport shuttle.
  • Outdoor pool and tennis court.

Experience

Ranked #2 (trip advisor) in the five star luxury hotel category for Algiers, I chose the Hilton for its location and convenience. With only a couple of luxury hotels mostly focused on business, Algiers does not have many options.

From the airport, I found the Hilton booth. A man welcomed me inside the booth to sit on a comfy couch and surf the web while the shuttle arrived.

A short 15 minutes drive from the airport and we arrived at the hotel.

The check-in process was great. I was upgraded with my Gold Status though I found the room faced the street. I requested an ocean view and received a quick confirmation. A staff member came with a key for the other room.

In the room I found a welcome tray of whole fruit and a bottle of local Algerian wine.

I ate a light dinner in the Executive Lounge which had a small selection of food, but an ample supply in the alcohol selection. The terrace of the lounge was very comfortable and provided a great view of the sunset.

The concierge had organized a complete tour with a car and driver. My request was answered promptly by Mr. Soufriere who really made an effort to make sure I was satisfied both before the booking and on my return.

The friendly driver introduced me to the city and the Tipaza ruins.

After the tour I relaxed in the lounge and then lobby before departing for the airport.

Location

Located near the airport, the Hilton is set near the beach in a quiet area. Its isolation adds to its security and serenity.

Getting into town is not difficult but can take awhile especially during peak hours with traffic.

Service

Excellent service at the reception desk with take charge individuals that make an effort to meet your needs. The concierge was also very accommodating and helped organized a customized tour.

Room

I stayed in a Deluxe Room on a high floor. The room had a small balcony with ocean views. There was also a seating area and a desk with access to high speed internet. Standard amenities like flat screen TV, coffee machine, and minibar were available.

The king sized bed was very comfortable and also had a great view out the window.

The bathroom was outfitted with a central sink on a marble countertop. To the left was a bathtub and shower. On the right was the toilet and bidet.

Activities

  • Tours: Visit the center of Algiers or take a private car to a well known site out of the city.
  • Pool and Tennis: Enjoy the large outdoor pool and tennis court.
  • Fitness Room: Get some exercise on the in-house equipment.

Dining

There are a few dining and bar options at the property. Unfortunately with my schedule, I didn’t have time to try any of the restaurants, except for the light meals in the Executive Lounge.

  • Casbah Restaurant – Try some Algerian food here.
  • Sara Restaurant – This French restaurant is their fine dining option.
  • Senso Restaurant – The Italian option.
  • Tamina Restaurant – This is the main restaurant where breakfast is served.
  • The Crystal Lounge, The Pool House, and the Kantara Bar – The options for drinks around the property.

Summary

Though clearly set up as a business hotel, the Hilton Alger is a fine option for a leisure visit. Tourists interested in visiting the sites of Algeria can organize a tailored tour with the concierge.

Hilton stands out as one of the few luxury brands in a city still in the stages of growth and they do an admirable job of maintaining the Hilton brand of luxury.

I can easily recommend the Hilton as one of the best options for business travelers and tourists visiting Algiers.
