Background

The Holiday Inn Andorra is an example of an establishment elevating the Holiday Inn brand. The hotel sits in the center of the small capital of Andorra, a country nestled between France and Spain. With a free shuttle the amazing ski resorts in the Pyrenees mountain range are easily reached.

Experience

Andorra doesn’t have its own airport which means vacationers are compelled to take a drive through the windy mountain roads. This drive itself is an attraction with incredible views, small ancient towns, and beautiful natural environments.

I could see the familiar green lights that light up the Holiday Inn sign as I approached the hotel. The reception is open 24-hours a day which was useful as we arrived quite late. The lobby was super modern with black saucer-like lighting fixtures that looked like an art installation. There was also plenty of cushy furniture which was perfect for relaxing before or after the slopes. The staff directed me to the complementary underground parking.

I checked-in to my Suite which had beautiful maple colored wood floors. The living area was spacious with an airy feel. The design was reminiscent of a ski lodge which fit with the theme of the nearby attractions.

Large windows at the end of the wall allowed natural light to fill the room, which was decked out in sleek furniture, including a king-sized bed and a sofa bed. The flat screen TV is discreetly mounted on the wall. There are also two closets for extra storage in every room, perfect for families with a complete ski gear. The bathroom includes complimentary toiletries, shower/tub combo and even a bidet.

For a little extra fun for the young ones there are also Kids Suites which have a separate bunk bed and sleeping areas decorated in different themes like “space”, “pirate”, “jungle” and “circus”. Kids can play their hearts out while the adults can enjoy some quiet time in watching TV or relaxing in the lounge area.

All 113 rooms at the Holiday Inn Andorra have complimentary coffee and tea, satellite TV, a large desk, mini bar, in-room safe, air conditioning, free wireless internet and a complimentary newspaper every morning.

The next morning I went downstairs for a bite to eat at El Gran Café. The European-style buffet had an extensive selection in addition to the a la carte menu. Every dish is prepared with only the freshest ingredients of the region. For quick snacks there is also the El Gran Café Bar which serves hot and cold drinks with light meals.

A great way to start off the day is in the Indoor Swimming Pool which is part of the Holiday Inn Andorra’s Health and Fitness Center. Right next door is also the sauna and steam room which is perfect after getting the endorphins pumping in the workout room. The hotel makes sure to keep up with the latest gym technology and there are even a few jogging trails around the hotel grounds for those who prefer fresh air to the treadmill.

In the Children’s Playroom full baby-sitting services are available. The room is colorfully painted and filled with kid friendly activities.

Most tourists visiting the Holiday Inn Andorra are there for the ski slopes, so one of the most important features of the hotel is the proximity to the resorts. It’s a short drive to several resorts and the hotel offers a free shuttle to Grandvalira Ski Resort.

Eight different meeting rooms are available at the Holiday Inn Andorra with the latest technology for flawless presentations and board meetings. Each space has LCD projectors, microphones, wireless internet and other audio visual equipment. There are also spaces to accommodate larger parties up to 600 people.

Service, especially at the reception, was always with a smile. The team seem very proud of their hotel and it shows through their work and dedication. Though the restaurant buffet was backed up at times, service in general was great.

With a central location, free shuttle to the slopes, comfortable well-equipped rooms and a dedicated staff, the Holiday Inn Andorra is easily one of the best choices for Andorra. I recommend skiers and vacations check out this convenient hotel in the center of the capital!
