Experience

The Lesotho Sun Hotel is run by Sun International Group, one of Africa’s leaders in hotels, games, and entertainment. The hotel is located on a mountain overlooking Maseru, near the royal palace, parliament building, and the Manthabiseng National Convention Center. As a true 5 star property, the hotel is known as the best in the city and country. Government officials, professionals, expats and tourists all frequent this establishment.

After a long drive from Swaziland, I arrived in the evening at the hotel. There is a large free parking lot with security. The reception and other interior areas are designed with the feel of a luxury cabin with wood and stone accents.

The 158 guest rooms range from Standard Twins to Executive Suites. The property even has Paraplegic Rooms to accommodate all special needs. I stayed in the Presidential Suite with a living and dining room, a guest bathroom, a kitchen, a large terrace, and a master bedroom with a bathroom. The soothing neutral color palette of the room matches the sunset views overlooking the pool or the city from the terrace. The primary amenities are all available including satellite TV, a writing desk, in-room safe, tea and coffee making facilities, universal adapter and of course air conditioning.

The guest bathroom includes a sink and toilet, while the master bathroom has a bath, shower, his and her sink, as well as a toilet and bidet. It even includes a powder table. All bathrooms have modern fixtures and clean lines in the minimalist design.

Lesotho Sun Hotel offers several restaurants and bars for guests to choose from. Interestingly there is an Asian fusion restaurant Ying Tao Grill which combines Thai and Chinese classics. The Nala Café offers a wide range of buffet options and outdoor seating. Buffet breakfast is included in the room rate.

For afternoon or late night drinks, guests have a couple options. The Hotsoma Bar just off the casino floor and the Letamong Pool Bar serves small bites and cocktails.

A highlight of the property is the popular Casino floor with 120 different slot games and table games. There is also an Outdoor Pool that is surrounded by green landscape and views of the mountains on the horizon. There is also a well equipped gym and spa area.

The property also has a large convention center and business facilities.

Service at the hotel was great throughout. The receptionists were especially helpful and friendly. They offered an itinerary of the main sights of Lesotho to visit in a day and made an effort to explain the route.

With several dining outlets, a casino, and an outdoor pool with views, The Lesotho Sun Hotel is a destination in itself. I recommend this hotel to all travelers seeking the best stay in Lesotho whether for business or pleasure.
