An experience at Next Paradise Boutique Resort in Zanzibar, Tanzania on the trip The Great Eastern Summer.

  • Located right on quiet white sandy beaches.
  • Beautiful rooms and bathrooms steps away from the sand.
  • Excellent fine-dining restaurant using local ingredients.

Experience

Zanzibar is famous for its white sandy beaches and has some prime locations situated on the east coast of the island. Next Paradise Boutique Resort is the number 1 rated hotel in the Pwani Mchangani area and after reading the positive reviews, we decided to stay there for our two nights in Zanzibar.

Hailing a taxi from Stone Town, we had a 45 minute drive to the other side of the island over fairly well paved roads and small towns. The drive itself was an interesting window into the life outside of the touristy centers.

On arrival we were greeted by a security guard dressed in traditional Masai clothing. Even though we were arriving in the evening, the reception was ready to quickly check us in and show us our suite.

We stayed in a roomy Family Room Garden which had one main room with a King sized bed connected to another room with two single beds. Fresh flowers decorated the beds to welcome us. The bathroom is accessible directly from both rooms. Each room has its own terrace facing the ocean and garden.

The rooms were very comfortable with quality linens, an essential mosquito net for each bed, and standards such as air-conditioning, ceiling fans, minibar, safe, and flat screen TVs. The wifi worked well and was easy to connect to.

The bathroom was elegant with two standout sinks, a large shower, toilet and bidet. A fresh local flower was set on the counter.

After settling into the room, it was soon time for dinner. We went to the restaurant which had a table waiting for us. Included in room rates is breakfast and a fine dining dinner if booked directly with the hotel.

The entire dining experience was wonderful. The candle-lit tables were set with white tablecloths. The meal was several courses expertly prepared by a local chef that was internationally trained. We had fresh seafood and the selection depends on what the local fishermen catch in the morning. The presentation and taste of the cuisine was divine.

After dinner guests can relax in the lounge area with a drink.

The next morning we enjoyed the buffet breakfast, then relaxed by the pool. There are two pools on the property with the main one in front of the restaurant.

We explored the beach and admire the clean white sand. The area in front of the hotel is very private as the other resorts are further down. Besides some local fishermen preparing their nets, we had the whole beach to ourselves. There are also beach chairs and umbrellas provided by the hotel.

The hotel has many options for activities such as diving, snorkeling, boat tours or sightseeing tours. There is also a popular kite surfing area nearby. On the property there is table tennis and a tennis court that should be finished by the end of the year.

We explored the northern beaches of the island as well, which was a short 25 minute taxi ride arranged by the hotel.

I can see why the owners Marina and Steward named their hotel “Next Paradise” when they started it in 2009. The location, beach, service, facilities and atmosphere of the experience was deserving of the name. With twenty rooms on the property it is very exclusive and private. Metka the Front Desk Manager was very welcoming and really made us feel at home during our entire stay.

Next Paradise is the perfect private getaway for relaxation, fine-dining and access to one the best beaches in the world. I highly recommend the resort for any vacationers looking to experience something special in a unique part of the world.
