Experience: Palau Royal Resort

A review of Palau Royal Resort on the island of Palau from the trip Pacifying the Pacific.

Highlights

  • Stunning location with private beaches and dock.
  • Modern design rooms.
  • Spa and onsite departures for activities.
  • Friendly and accommodating service.

Background

The Japanese managed Palau Royal Resort is set on a peninsula surrounded by white sandy beaches. The 157 room hotel is well integrated into Palau’s natural environment with its gardens, ponds, pools and beaches. Completely self sufficient with generators and its own water desalinization plant, the hotel is focused on being eco friendly.

With a few days to spend exploring the island, I was excited to have a luxurious stay at the hotel.

Experience

Coming from the airport by car I had a short drive and found the location quite easily. The parking was complementary. I enjoyed a welcome drink as I checked in and soon was relaxing with the view from my balcony.

I stayed in a Deluxe Ocean room with an open bathroom concept to accentuate the incredible ocean views. Two double beds face the television and desk with an inset safe. A love chair is positioned in the corner for reading. There is also a kettle for tea and coffee and mini fridge. Right outside the sliding doors lead to the private balcony with chairs and a small table.

The open bathroom has a shower and separate bathtub. The sink and mirror is set up on an island in the middle of the room.

Internet was available, but you have to purchase prepaid cards to access it. The restaurant and bar had free wifi.

The Waves Restaurant is the main restaurant of the hotel service a breakfast buffet, lunch and dinner. The cuisine is international with seafood and several asian dishes available. Next door is the Coral Bar with large windows facing the ocean.

The Beach Bar “Breeze” serves the outdoor area with snacks and drinks.

In terms of activities onsite, there are plenty of options. The biggest draws are clearly the beautiful beaches and pools. The activity booth on the beach can organize snorkeling or kayaking. As the property has a private dock, you can head out on tours directly from the hotel by boat which really gives an island feel.

On the other side is a tennis court and mini golf area. There is a recreation room with billiards and table tennis. A fully equipped gym will allow you to stay in shape and the grand Mandara Spa offers many treatments and massages in several different room set ups.

If visiting for business, the hotel can accommodate groups of all sizes for up to 100 people. They have different spaces that can be set up for a specific event either indoors or outdoors.

What I found to be refreshing was the exceptional service especially from the reception team. From giving restaurant recommendations, to organizing activities, I felt well cared for my entire stay.

With views from luxury rooms and access to pools surrounded by white sandy beaches, Palau Royal Resort is a unique offering that stands out from the rest of the properties in Koror. I would love to stay again on my next trip!
