Experience: Radisson Blu Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

A review of the Radisson Blu Addis Ababa in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia the trip Horn of Africa Tour.

Highlights

  • Conveniently located in the city center.
  • Delicious cuisine including a great breakfast buffet.
  • Radisson Blu’s modern and functional rooms and facilities.
  • Conference facilities ideal for business.

Background

The Radisson Blu Addis Ababa has become quite the international hub in Africa. Not only is the UN Conference Center a few blocks away but so is the UN Commission for Africa headquarters and Africa Hall. The 5-star hotel is built to host delegates, diplomats and other world leaders as well as the everyday traveler looking for a little luxury in the Horn of Africa.

Experience

The Radisson Blu Addis Ababa is only a 15 minute drive from the Bole International Airport and within walking distance from the United Nations Conference Center which makes it a hub in the business district of Addis Ababa.

I stayed in one of The Radisson Blu’s Business Rooms which was nicely furnished with bold patterns inspired by traditional African prints. It’s particularly good for business travelers with a work desk, coffee and tea station, flat screen TV, mini bar and free wireless internet. One of my favorite features was the large king size bed which made for a great night’s sleep. I also got access to the Business Class Lounge on the 9th floor which has a fantastic view of the city and a great selection of snacks and drinks.

In all there are 204 hotel rooms. Standard Rooms are quite roomy, tastefully decorated in warm colors and also has a minibar, wireless internet, flat screen TV and a work space. There are 16 Suites which have separate bedrooms and defined eating areas – perfect for traveling families. Guests staying in Suites also get access to the Business Class Lounge.

The Verres en Vers at the Radisson Blu is the first French brasserie-style restaurant in Addis Ababa which has made it a popular destination for fine cuisine in the capital city. Every morning the restaurant serves its popular Super Breakfast Buffet with local and international favorites all prepared in the open kitchen. The smoked salmon and free range eggs were especially tasty. There’s also a bevy of healthy options like fresh fruit and yogurt. For lunch and dinner the restaurant has a wide range of signature dishes like steak au poivre which pairs nicely with the lengthy wine list. Guests can book the Private Dining Room which is perfect for business dinners or private parties.

The Signature Bar & Terrace has become a favorite meeting place with expert bartenders crafting fantastic cocktails in a chic and relaxing atmosphere. The terrace area is a great spot to enjoy the warm Ethiopian climate underneath the unique canopies.

The Rainforest Day Spa is the hotel’s signature spa which features four treatment rooms as well as a fully equipped gym. There’s a wide range of spa treatments to choose from including both massage and beauty treatments.

For business guests there are plenty of spaces for meetings and conferences at the Radisson Blu Addis Ababa. In fact, there are nine rooms ranging in size that can seat anywhere from 20 to 190 people. The largest is the Sholla Room which can be divided into two or four sections depending on guest needs. The close proximity to the UN conference center also makes this venue ideal for international delegates and business travelers. Every room is equipped with air-conditioning, wireless internet and tons of natural lighting for an inviting atmosphere. There are devoted event personnel on hand to help organize all aspects of events like catering and special requests so everything runs smoothly.

Overall the Radisson Blu Addis Ababa is an easy choice for business travelers but also for leisure travelers. With a winning restaurant, spa and gym facilities, and luxurious rooms, the Radisson Blu is quickly becoming a favorite of the capital. I would highly recommend a stay for a traveler valuing luxury and convenience.
