Experience: Riad Zamzam Marrakech

Atlas North: A Tour through Portugal, Morocco, Tunisia, and Algeria
A review of Riad Zamzam for a two night stay during a stay in Marrakech, Morocco.

Highlights

  • Chic and luxurious rooms featuring traditional Moroccan designs.
  • Excellent service to insure the best stay possible.
  • Great terrace overlooking the medina.
  • Restaurant meals are created with daily fresh produce.

Experience

The riad can organize a car from the airport or pick you up when you arrive at the main gate of the medina.

A reception member guides you through the windy alleys of the old city to the entrance of the riad.

The humble exterior opens to a lavish interior with lights that paint pictures on the walls.

In the main courtyard open to natural sunlight, a man dressed in traditional Moroccan garb serves you mint tea and snacks as you check in.

Our entire itinerary in the city was shaped with a sit down conversation with Imane who chats to understand your interests and recommends the best to see in your given timeframe.

Staying in two different rooms, we got to see how decor was customized for each space.

In order to arrive at the train station (for a 4:50 a.m. departure) the hotel organized a driver and even packed a breakfast so that we would be able to eat on train. Caring attention to guests needs is a hallmark of Riad Zamzam.

Location

Located in the quiet north of the medina, Riad Zamzam is right in the center of the action. A short walk away is the souk and Jemaa el-Fnaa square.

A few turns from the main gate, taxis are easily accessible for trips outside of the medina.

Service

The intimate team at Riad Zamzam focuses on understanding the requests of the clients and meeting them, whatever they may be. In each guests’ room is a welcome letter reminding that if there are any requests or questions, ask and they will be addressed.

Reception and restaurant staff were very friendly and helpful.

The manager Imane was available and provided expert advice.

Room

The hotel has seven rooms, each are all uniquely decorated with their own touch of Moroccan style. The rooms have single bed or double bed configurations with open or closed bathrooms.

The rooms come with seating areas, closets, mini safe and docking stations. Wifi is available throughout the hotel, though the signal is best in the courtyard.

The bathrooms have natural handmade soaps and shampoos. Showers have excellent water pressure.

Activities

  • Tours: The hotel can help arrange any tours or place reservations that you may need. As most visitors are touring Marrakech, this is the most important aspect.
  • Spa: A spa with a hammam, massage and other treatments is available.
  • Pool: A small pool is available to refresh in.
  • Cookery Course: Learn to cook Moroccan cuisine with a Moroccan chef!

Dining

The main restaurant service is in the courtyard but service is also available on the terrace.
The breakfast is tasty with local honey and jams spread over freshly baked bread retrieved each morning. Enjoy with a coffee or tea.
Lunch and dinner is made to order so all the ingredients are fresh.

Summary

The medina in Marrakech is hectic and noisy which accentuates the haven within Riad Zamzam. In addition to excellent concierge and service, the rooms and facilities are stylish and well kept.

For an elevated riad experience with luxurious rooms in a Moroccan tradition, I recommend Riad Zamzam.
