Experience

Nosy Be, the top tourist destination in Madagascar, has many options for lodging. Royal Beach Hotel easily stands out as the leading resort on the island. Conveniently located right on the beach of Madirokely Bay, the property is easy to reach from Fascene Airport. With great reviews and top ratings, I couldn’t wait to enjoy this resort.

Arriving from Antananarivo, the hotel shuttle was waiting for us. A friendly driver offered cool bottled water and a wet towel as we settled into the van. After a quick drive around the island we arrived at the entrance of the property. Tall urns filled with water flanked the path to the open air lobby. With tall ceilings, a wooden tile roof and tropical styled furniture decorated the space. We were enthusiastically welcomed and shown our rooms after a speedy check-in.

The hotel has a mixed Creole and Malagasy architecture that evokes a tropical feel of rustic elegance very fitting for the setting.

The Suites of Royal Beach Hotel have a clean minimalist approach that still focus on luxury. A living room is set next to the main bedroom both connected to the balcony. The diamond pattered furniture made of the famous Malagasy wood and white cushions fits the tropical atmosphere. A bathroom with a full bath, shower, and sink is separate from the toilet and sink. Each room is equipped with air-conditioning, a refrigerator, minibar, work desk, free wi-fi and a flat screen TV.

Each of the 6 Suites boast a fully furnished balcony or patio and magnificent views of the sea, pool, or gardens. The resort has a total of 48 rooms.

Royal Beach Hotel has a couple of options for dining. Le Nautile Restaurant is the flagship restaurant located right next to the beach. The menu features fine dining local cuisine and classy live music in the evenings. Set in the garden next to the pool, the Cote Jardin Restaurant and Bar provides a lighter meal option, specializing in pizza, which is ideal for lunch.

The kidney shaped Outdoor Pool and Spa is surrounded by serviced lounge chairs with sun umbrellas. Next to a pool is the bar seating area followed by a palm tree lined path leading to the beach with more lounge chairs. Bar service is available in all of these lounging areas. The spa also includes a Turkish bath, sauna, and massage treatment center.

If you’re looking for something more active, there are Fitness Facilities for exercising and Tennis Courts. The dedicated activity center offers comprehensive tours and excursions. Try out snorkeling and visit lemurs and Madagascar wildlife on the nearby islands. Deep sea fishing, kayaking, motorized watercrafts, snorkeling, and water skiing are also available.

Service at the resort is by far what was most memorable. From pick up to drop off, every interaction with the team at the hotel was very pleasant. The front desk staff were especially helpful on introducing the resort, helping with any requests and recommending activities. They even checked and notified us of our flight being delayed (and then cancelled) without us asking! When the flight was cancelled the staff actively worked to find a solution for connections and options. Other little touches such as treating the rooms for mosquitos and daily fresh flowers also were appreciated. What a proactive and caring team!

Security at the beach area and front entrance is also professional and effective. Safety was not an issue.

After an extended stay, I found the Royal Beach Hotel really excelled at creating a welcoming and peaceful atmosphere with friendly staff and a luxurious setting. A varied selection of activities will keep guests busy and great dining options will keep guests satisfied. This was easily the best hotel I stayed at in Madagascar and I highly recommend a stay here if visiting Nosy Be.
