Tornado Tour of South America – Argentina, Uruguay, Chile, Bolivia, Paraguay and Brazil
A review of Mi Pueblo “Samary” Hotel Boutique in Sucre, Bolivia.
Highlights
- Historic colonial property with modern renovations yet of original charm.
- Located right in the center of Sucre.
- Restaurants with traditional food tasting options.
- Refreshingly helpful and friendly staff.
Experience
Mi pueblo “Samary” Hotel Boutique is one of the highest rated hotels in Sucre and a member of the Bolivian Boutique Hotels.
As a remodeled colonial mansion from 1828, the mix of Spanish-American architecture is apparent. The hotel mimics a small town with a church, courtyard in the center with a fountain and even an irrigation channel.
I arrived late in the evening and the reception quickly processed my checkin and showed me to my room.
The next day I enjoyed a taste of some local specialities, then I went up to the top floor for the buffet and made-to-order breakfast. The food was fresh and waiters will serve you at the tables.
I met with Andres, the manager, for a tour of the property and bar. I sampled some of the chichas that they had. The strawberry was especially a sweet specialty!
After I worked with Joanna at the front desk who was extremely helpful in confirming a flight and even making a last minute ticket change.
Everyone at the property was friendly and I received several recommendations on places to visit during my stay.
Location
Located about a block away from the main square, all major sites are easily in walking distance. The location is very central and convenient.
Service
Again, service could not have been more accommodating and helpful. While many hotels will address a request, the staff at Mi Pueblo Samary take hold of the request as if it were their own.
Overall professional, courteous and helpful service throughout the hotel.
Room
The rooms are well decorated and have touches of the original colonial feel. I stayed in a Double Room with two Queen beds. All the necessities were there including phone, TV, wifi, minibar and in-room safe.
The bathroom was clean and basic with a shower, toilet, and sink.
Activities
The large majority of guests are visiting for tourism which would be the main activity from this hotel. The front desk can help you organize any tours, itineraries, or taxis.
Dining
Tejados is the main restaurant of the hotel highlighted by a beautiful panoramic view over Sucre. The cuisine is international and Bolivian. In the morning, guests can sample local specialties at the “Terraza del Panadero” where fresh bread is baked in a clay oven.
Across from the reception is La Chichería, a speciality bar serving the local chica. It’s interesting to note that in the Bolivian culture, the entire community, regardless of social status and profession, will gather together and drink in the same Chicheria.
Summary
Mi Pueblo Samary focuses and succeeds in providing a unique window to a past world of colonial Sucre. With excellent service and a beautiful property set in a great location, this hotel is a fine choice.
I recommend Mi Pueblo Samary to any visitor with an appreciation of the finer things.
