Background
The classical architecture of 54 on Bath, named for its address, is an eye-catching and iconic structure in Rosebank. Towering about the mall, it proudly stands above the rest. This refined and elegant boutique is well known as one the best and most sought after places to stay in the city. With raving reviews, I looked forward to the stay.
Experience
Coming from Namibia, I had a night to enjoy the hotel before heading to Botswana. From the airport, I took the fast and safe train to the station just a couple of blocks from the hotel. After a short walk I arrived, walked by a Rolls-Royce parked in front and into the lobby.
Inside is a white grand piano, crystal chandeliers, mirrored columns, and plush sofas. Along the walls hung original artwork expressing the diversity and culture of the city.
I was greeted by the reception and checked into my room.
There are 75 rooms at 54 on Bath which range from Deluxe Rooms to Luxury Suites. Each one is decked out in the highest international standard in terms of amenities. The black, white, and gray color palette is classic but rooms also feature trendy graphics and patterns to add visual interest to the space. Inside the spacious room is an executive desk opposite a large comfy bed with a selection of pillows. Rooms include complimentary wi-fi, an espresso machine, minibar, LED TV, and color coded snacks that are part delicious and part decoration.
A shot of cocktail and a macaroon welcomed me to the room.
Each bathroom features a separate bath and shower facing the granite countertop sink. A toilet sits in the opposite corner of the towel warmer.
The elegant theme from the lobby is carried into Level Four Restaurant for a classical dining experience with a dash of contemporary flair. Each chef at the restaurant has a couple signature dishes on the main menu to mix and match for a delectable three-course meal. Guests can also opt for the set menu which is carefully formulated by the chefs for a range of flavors that complement each other and make for a unique gastronomy experience. When you make a reservation, make sure to request outdoor seating on the Garden Terrace to enjoy the fresh air and view while you dine.
I enjoyed the a la carte breakfast with an order of a delightful Eggs Benedict, fruit plate, fresh yogurt, orange juice and coffee.
Enjoy pre-dinner drinks at the Champagne Bar, connected to the garden and offering a wide range of champagne as well as cocktails and wines.
In terms of activities, 54 on Bath is situated in the heart of Rosebank, one of the trendiest neighborhoods of Johannesburg. There is direct access to Rosebank Mall from the second floor for shopping at designer stores, entertainment, and more dining options. The hotel also has easy access to the train station for day trips into Johannesburg and sightseeing destinations.
If you just want to relax at the hotel, the Garden Terrace on the fourth floor is perfect to sit back on a designer lounge chair and enjoy the view. Alternatively you can take a couple of laps in the Outdoor Pool.
The hotel is also designed to accommodate business guests with several conference rooms, a business center, and dedicated services.
The professional staff are well managed to anticipate guests needs while remaining unobtrusive. The reception, waitstaff, and chauffeur were all a pleasure.
With a central location offering direct access to the mall, chic and luxurious designs, and world class service and facilities, 54 on Bath sets itself apart. I highly recommend a stay here for discerning business and leisure travelers.
