Experience
Athens is the most visited city in Greece and one of the most visited in Europe. With a strong tourism market, luxury hotels are plentiful. The NJV Athens Plaza stands out from the competition due to an ideal location, supreme customer service, and subtle opulence. With a central location and great reviews, I was excited to visit and experience the hotel.
Getting to the hotel straight from the airport, I was greeted with a warm smile and welcome by the friendly reception. Though I was early my room was waiting and I was offered a speedy check-in.
I stayed in one of the Deluxe Rooms with views of the Sacred Rock of the Acropolis. Entering the room, the king bed sits against the wall facing a large TV and desk. A bottle of Greek wine sat on the table. On the right are sliding glass doors leading to the balcony. The large spaces of the suites are dressed in light blue creating a soothing environment.
The white and black marble clad bathroom had a sink, toilet, and a shower bath combination.
The suite offers the standard 5 star amenities including free wifi.
The highlight of the room is the unbelievable terrace in terms of size and view. The terrace wraps around the building and is fully open offering views from both sides of the building.
After exploring the room, I set out sightseeing around the hotel based on an excellent walking itinerary explained by the concierge. There are countless sights outside the hotel for tourists to see and most of them are within walking distance. Places like the historical district where galleries, cultural centers, old churches and monuments that line the picturesque paved streets. It isn’t recommended to drive in the historical district since the unification of archaeological sites has made parking limited and conversion of many lanes to pedestrian alleys. Ask the concierge downstairs for a great walking tour.
On my return I met with a team member for a tour of the hotel.
The Plaza Lounges is perfect for anytime of the day. Smoothies cool you down during the hot days until it’s time for cocktails at night. During the winter months Plaza Lounges hosts different Greek wine produces every month to promote local wines with complementing food pairings.
The Explorer’s Lounge is tucked away with rich wooden wall paneling and large green leather chairs for guests to enjoy champagne and fine wines.
For fine dining, The Parliament is the star of NJV Athens Plaza. The Mediterranean cuisine is prepared with fresh ingredients and modern techniques and pair wonderfully with the hotel’s wine collection. In winter the restaurant likes to emphasize Mediterranean products by offering an authentic and light buffet lunch in its elegant décor.
Conference rooms are also available for business guests or events.
The NVJ Athens Plaza doesn’t have an onsite gym or spa but special guest rates are offered to Holmes Place Athens Club which is only a few meters away.
What makes the NJV Athens Plaza perfect for travelers is its central location to most of the cultural and historical sites the city has to offer. Even if you want to go farther out the gracious staff is more than happy to help you find transportation and even suggest a few extra sites not on the beaten path. The hotel also has a major renovations underway with improvements on the exterior and revamping carpeting, draperies, furniture, and maintenance work on the interior areas include The Parliament Restaurant, rooms, and suites. Once this is complete, the hotel will be even more luxurious.
I’d highly recommend the NJV Athens Plaza Hotel for tourists and business travels visiting Athens.
