Experience
The Westin Bulkhead is a well known business hotel in Atlanta, but it is also suitable for tourists that want to get away from the chaos of downtown and end their day in a more relaxed neighborhood.
With a weekend to spend, it was the perfect base for my touring of the city.
Coming from the airport, I took the convenient MARTA rail, which goes directly to Buckhead station. From there, the hotel is just a block away.
Check-in was quick and efficient. My reservation was found immediately and the room was ready even though I was early.
I stayed in a Deluxe King Room on the 18th floor. The corner room offered excellent city views from both the bedroom and the bathroom.
On entering the room, you find the King bed facing a rotatable flat screen TV. Next to the TV is the tea and coffee making facilities with complementary Starbucks® coffee and Tazo® tea. On the right is the desk with convenient front facing outlets and internet ethernet. I liked the green effort to include a blue recycle bin as well as a waste bin. A couch is in front of the large windows where the center of Buckhead is presented, while the downtown skyline stood clearly in the distance.
The bathroom has a separate marble tiled shower and bathtub, with the view of Buckhead skyscrapers. The sink has a well lit wall mirror and vanity mirror. The toilet compartment is in the corner of the room. The hotel offers Westin’s signature White Tea Aloe Spa amenities.
The room has all the standard amenities like phone, CD player/alarm clock, safe, minibar (stocked on request) and fast wireless internet (for a fee).
This hotel also takes part in Westin’s “Make a Green Choice” program in which guests can decline linen change service in return for a $5 gift card to use for the hotel dining outlets or 500 Starpoints.
I then set off to explore the hotel facilities. Clearly marked in the elevator is the Westin Workout Fitness Studio. A room key is necessary for 24 hour access the club which includes a pool, exercise machines, weights, and a workout/yoga room.
On the bottom floors are the function and conference rooms set up to receive business guests with easy access from the lobby.
The hotel’s primary dining option is The Palm Restaurant accessed from the lobby. A popular place for a power breakfast, this establishment serves American/Italian fare for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The walls are decorated with faces and signatures of celebrities that have frequented.
Besides the lobby bar, on the metro lobby level is a cafe where snacks are available. The Executive Club Lounge also offers snacking options, drinks, and beautiful views for guests on the Executive Club floors. Don’t miss the happy hour specials!
For a tourist, what was especially helpful is the complementary car service to anywhere in a 2 mile radius. I took a roundtrip to the Atlanta History Center and found the service to be very convenient with a friendly driver. All other major sights are easily accessed by rail or taxi.
For shopping and restaurants, just walk across the street to one of the most popular malls in Atlanta.
This trendy hotel in the high end Buckhead has become a landmark in the area. With its central location, proximity to shopping outlets and transportation, professional service, and modern comfortable facilities, The Westin Buckhead Atlanta is an excellent choice.
I recommend the hotel for business guests working in the area, but also for tourists looking for a relaxed stay with modern comforts.
