Tornado Tour of South America – Argentina, Uruguay, Chile, Bolivia, Paraguay and Brazil
A review of Finca Adalgisa for an overnight stay during a tour of Mendoza, Argentina.
Highlights
- Elegant winery and vineyard with integrated hotel.
- Amazing personalized and accommodating service.
- Excellent restaurant with wine pairing and cooking classes.
- Tours and organized activities are fun and a great learning experience.
Experience
As one of the top rated properties in the area, Finca Adalgisa sits right in center of wine country. When planning a stay in Mendoza, I wanted to focus on the most famous aspect of the area, the wine. This property produces around 5,000 bottles a year of their vintage Malbec as well as olive oil.
The Furlotti family has been operating the property for three generations to share the unique experience of a Mendoza vineyard with almost one hundred years of history.
Arriving at the hotel by taxi, we were greeted at the gate by the receptionist. She processed our check in and led us to the room. As it was quite late in the evening, we were late for the cooking class. We went to the restaurant and caught the end of the class which was underway with a small group of guests.
We sat in the restaurant and had a light meal consisting of handmade empanadas courtesy of the cooking class, a pumpkin soup, cheeses and breads, and the flavorful Finca Adalgisa’s Malbec.
At dinner we also met the owner, Gabriella and Teresa the manager. The evening’s atmosphere was extremely welcoming and it felt more like a family gathering than a hotel, especially with the two friendly family German Shepherds at our feet.
The next morning we enjoyed a fresh buffet breakfast. Then Melissa at reception helped us organize an itinerary for the day and contacted several vineyards to organize a tour for us. Then we took two of the hotel bicycles out and cycled to the vineyards.
On our return, the hotel had a taxi ready with our luggage loaded in the back waiting for us. Teresa and Melissa gave us a warm send off.
Location
Located about thirty minutes from Mendoza, Finca Adalgisa is in the center of wine country. Nearby is a small town with several vineyards and wineries with onsite production.
Service
A true sign of excellent service is when staff members anticipate and address your needs before you are even aware of the need. This was only one of the aspects that made the service stand out at Finca Adalgisa. Genuinely warm and friendly members of the team make sure that you are completely taken care of during your stay.
Room
We stayed in a room next to the pool and surrounded by grape vines. It had a seating area with a fireplace and a kitchenette hidden in a cupboard. The open bedroom had a rustic feel but was decked out with modern technology like an iPhone dock alarm clock and high end bedding.
The amenities included air conditioning, heating, safe, mini-bar, and telephone.
The bathroom though small had all the necessities and a comfortable shower.
Right outside the room was a hammock to relax on.
Activities
- Wine Tours: Explore Finca Adalgisa and visit several wineries in the area to see the different processes and discovery why the Malbec is famous from this area.
- Cooking Class with Cristina Brino: Learn to cook (and eat) local delicacies using traditional methods like a clay oven with an expert chef.
- Pool: Swim or lounge around the outdoor pool set in the middle of the vineyard.
- Bicycle Tour: Borrow one of the hotel bicycles to explore the neighboring town and vineyards.
- Massages: Relax at the end of the day with a massage.
- Tours and Adventures: The concierge can arrange a number of activities including rafting, hiking, mountain biking, horse riding and tours to the Andes.
Dining
The proper offers a breakfast buffet consisting of fresh fruit and pastries as well as meats, cheese, cereal, and made to order eggs with coffee or tea. The focus seems to be on fresh and locally produced products.
For the fine dining dinner, the restaurant is set in the lounge overlooking the vineyard.
Summary
Finca Adalgisa revives the traditional courteousness of hospitality in a way that allows guests to quickly feel at home. The professional and thoughtful service at the hotel complemented the rustic property of a working winery.
Renovated rooms of the original buildings of the manor create an old world atmosphere without forgoing any luxuries.
With the concierge at your service to create a customized itinerary for your stay including tours at other vineyards and activities, you are sure to enjoy your visit at your own pace.
The restaurant cuisine paired with house vintage Malbec is divine.
For a unique experience at a modest yet luxurious property in the heart of Mendoza’s wine country, I highly recommend Finca Adalgisa.
