Background

Named after the owner’s favorite champagne, the 5-star Clico Boutique Hotel lies in Rosebank, a suburb of Johannesburg. It has easy access to the train station and is in walking distance to the Rosebank Mall. This former guesthouse has expanded and been transformed into a luxury boutique hotel with a focus on an intimate and personalized experience. The 60 year old Cape Dutch building exudes a historic charm that is the ideal setting for a stay in Johannesburg.

Experience

Coming from Madagascar, I drove to the hotel which is easy to find off of the main highway. 24 hour security opened the gate to let me into the parking.

On entering I was greeting by the reception and welcomed to the house. The main building had a home away from home feel with a comfortable lounge featuring couches in front of a fireplace and bookshelf.

Each of the 9 Rooms is designed for optimal relaxation. They are clad in earthy tones while bathrooms are finished with white tile and chrome fixtures. Some rooms feature a claw footed bathtub. Beds are topped with orthopedic mattress toppers on the extra long beds and orthopedic pillows ensure a good night’s rest. Tea, coffee, and fresh milk provided daily as well as complimentary breakfast which can be enjoyed on the balcony overlooking the gardens or pool area. Other amenities provided in each room include a minibar, flat screen TV, work desk, and free wi-fi.

Fresh flowers and a bottle of wine welcomed me to the room.

Clico’s Restaurant is an intimate dining experience with European style cuisine. The menu with a matching wine selection changes on a daily basis to make the best use of local organic ingredients. If you have special dietary needs, just approach the kitchen and chat with the accommodating chef.

The a la carte breakfast was delicious and even featured fine dining service.

The private garden courtyard features an Outdoor Pool with lounge chairs to relax in a calm atmosphere or get some sun. The Lounge is ideal for relaxing with a book on one of the couches.

The Function Facility of Clico Boutique Hotel can host up to 60 people which makes this venue perfect for small gatherings. A sliding door system fully opens up the corner of the facility to extend the area into the garden. The facility comes with all the modern technology necessary for events such as a data projector, flat screen TV with cable, projector screen and sound system. For events or conferences, private catering is also available. Clico’s chef works closely with guests to design their own menu or suggest a prepared option for full or half day events.

For very large events and private functions, the entire hotel can also be reserved upon special request.

Personalized service is a focus as the hotel has many repeat clients. Every guest is known to reception and while at the property you really feel at home.
