Experience: Intercontinental Almaty

On my first visit to Almaty, I wanted to stay at a hotel brand I could be comfortable with. IHG’s Intercontinental always has high standards and with their convenient central location, I had to check it out.

Located right by the park and the Republic Square, most sights are within walking distance or a short taxi ride away. The Central State Museum is just across the park from the hotel. If you rented a car, the hotel has ample secure free parking.

Entering the lobby I found the decor to be very classy with a golden touches and maroon colored marbled flooring. The atrium goes to the height of the building with a modern art piece hanging down.

Check in was very efficient and professional. The receptionist spoke English well and gave us a rundown of what to see and do in the area.

Staying in an Executive room overlooking the garden behind the hotel provided privacy and quiet. The room was well outfitted with plush beds, flat screen TV and fast free wifi. A work desk was in the corner next to a seating area with a much appreciated welcome display of fruits, chocolate, and wine on the table. The bathroom was decked out in beige marble including in the shower and bathtub area.

The hotel has a number of dining options to choose from. The Bosphorus Restaurant serves Turkish and Ottoman cuisine in a room with cultural paintings and decorations. The Belvedere Grill Room provides a more professional feel specializing in meats. Breakfast is served in the Asian Cafe Restaurant a la carte or by selecting the buffet. The options are plentiful and the restaurant is also opened for lunch and dinner offering an international menu.

Having a club room, I was able to access the Club International Lounge. This executive lounge is one of my favorite aspects of the hotel. With a top floor view over the park, pre-dinner canapés and drinks served and an exclusive dining area for breakfast this lounge does it right.

Besides the lounge there are other areas enjoy a beer or cocktail. The beer garden downstairs is a great place to hang out with friends while the J Bar in the lobby is perfect for a quick coffee with a guest. There is even a bar/restaurant at the tennis courts.

Onsite at the Intercontinental is a gym, tennis courts, and a popular spa. At this wellness center you can get a whole range of massages to suit your needs.

Of course the Intercontinental is a popular hotel for business guests, especially given their central location and facilities. Their Regal Ballroom can accomodate 700 guests while their private meetings rooms can be customized for smaller groups. This means they can handle almost any kind of event or meeting.

With a three night stay, I became quite accustomed to the comfort and professional treatment that I almost didn’t want to leave to continue my journey through the Stans! If searching for a professional luxury hotel in a central location of Almaty, the Intercontinental is a fine choice.
