Experience

Mövenpick Resort is one of over 70 locations of the Swiss Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts locations and features authentic antiques and artwork inside. Located right outside of Petra this is the closest visitors can stay to the historic site. Though it was only built in 1996, the hotel has already undergone a refreshing renovation to modernize the resort yet maintain its elegance.

With plenty of options in the area, we chose to stay at the Mövenpick due to the good reviews and proximity to the entrance of Petra.

Coming from Wadi Rum, we found the hotel right in the center of the town. Driving into the hotel parking lot, a person welcomed us and provided valet parking.

We checked into a Junior Suite with twin beds which also featured a sizeable sitting area. On the coffee table was a welcome plate selection of tasty snacks. Each of these suites has a unique size and shape. Our balcony looked over the old city with traditional houses on the mountainside.

The bathroom was granite and marble decorated with a sink, toilet, bidet, and shower/tub.

The rooms have recently been redesigned with a modern flair and feature a complementary mini bar (refilled daily), satellite TV, and wireless internet. Interconnecting rooms can also be requested for larger groups.

We went on a tour of the property to explore the facilities.

Mövenpick Resort is known as a 5-star spa resort and not only for adults. The resort has also created spaces for younger guests to enjoy billiards and games while the adults can indulge steam rooms or state-of-the-art fitness equipment at the health club. The pool is right outside and offers a respite after a hot day of touring. The hotel also features several outlets for shopping in house, including a store with local made products.

Mövenpick Resort Petra offers seven diverse restaurants and bars to its guests. For fine dining, the Al Iwan Restaurant is located on the lobby floor. The Middle Eastern décor is lit by candlelight and creates an intimate and exotic atmosphere while you dine. Chef Hamza Salameen and his Mediterranean cuisine have been voted the best restaurant in Jordan by Grumpy Gourmet Magazine.

Al Saraya Restaurant is the casual dining option for guests. Even though the restaurant is casual, it still offers a private area for groups and can seat up to 220 guests for buffet or la carte dining overlooking the pool. In the evenings the Al Ghadeer Roof Garden is a major draw for hotel. This summer terrace gives guests some of the best views and sunsets of the area while enjoying argileh (hookah) and live music. When we went up, the enticing smell of roasted kebabs filled the air. After the sun goes down the Al Maqa’ad Bar is a splendid place to mingle with other guests and sip on a drink.

Any of the 183 rooms and suites in the Mövenpick Resort offers fantastic views and a Middle Eastern décor that fits the landscape and history of the area. Being located right outside of one of the world’s greatest tourist sites makes this resort an ideal choice.

I would recommend this resort to any traveler looking to explore Petra, with the comforts of a modern luxury resort.
