Background
The Domain Bahrain has taken down the social walls of traditional hotels and focused on bringing its guests together which is a refreshing break from the typical atmosphere of exclusive establishments. This is achieved by combining an exclusive club with a luxury hotel, allowing visitors and the Bahrain elite to mingle over cocktails and events. Their formula must be working, as this fairly new establishment opened in 2013 has already become one of the best names in Manama. I was excited to experience this unique offering.
Experience
The hotel is a short drive from the Bahrain International Airport and was especially comfortable with their flawless airport transfer service. I arrived late in the evening and the reception had everything set for me as soon as I stepped inside the building.
The lobby was stunning, glittering in gold and rich textures. I especially loved the overhead lighting which was incorporated into a decorative circular wood feature. I was escorted to my suite and completed the check in.
I had the pleasure of staying in an Executive Suite. What impressed me with the room was the high tech tablet, the stunning views, and the extravagant luxury. The touch screen tablet could control the lights, curtains, air conditioning/fan, and do not disturb/make room notices. The views over the entire city through the wrap-around floor to ceiling windows were jaw-dropping. Every detail of the room was designed with luxury in mind, from the high-end amenities to the ultra plush bed.
In all there are 63 luxury suites and 68 rooms available which include full butler service, tablet controlled lights and temperature, private bar, free wireless internet, satellite TV and laundry service.
Other categories include the Luxury Suites and Corporate Suites. The Lounge and The Panorama target leisure travelers with some of the best views in the city. Larger groups can combine some of these rooms to get the best of both worlds, one side for entertaining business guests and the other for family or a social circle.
The Sofie is famed as the priciest hotel room in Bahrain. With 6 bedrooms occupying an entire floor, the suite would be perfect for hosting a private cocktail or dinner party.
The Domain has a fine selection of dining and drinking outlets.
Txoko is a lounge on the top floor of the building. The social atmosphere of the hotel extends to this hot spot where guests are invited to cook together or enjoy the tapas style menu designed for sharing. The opportunity to collaborate with the chef means every plate is unique to group who chooses to participate. There is also a wide range of sangria, beer and scientifically inspired drinks created by the bar’s resident mixologist.
On the 35th floor of the hotel is devoted to the taste of Japan. Imari serves fresh robatayaki, sushi, sashimi and Japanese inspired tapas. Imari also has a long menu of Japanese cocktails, beers, and sake in its collection.
Le Domain with fine dining French cuisine and Le Sauvage focused on meats are located on the 34th floor.
A more casual spot to eat, read and just relax is The Living Room on the 16th floor. Figs & Olives prepares tasty Italo-Lebanese dishes.
The Cigar Lounge is a perfect spot to sit back on leather seats while puffing a quality cigar paired with a whiskey or cognac.
One of the highlights of The Domain Bahrain is the extensive Vie Spa with dedicated areas for men and women. Every aspect of the spa is personalized to make it one of the most luxurious centers in Bahrain. Before every treatment guests are welcomed to experience the Himalayan Salt Stone Sauna which is particularly beneficial for the respiratory system and skin, the steam room, the tropical rain shower and the Four Senses Room which combines light, aroma, music and vibration to stimulate almost all the senses.
The spa treatments themselves are split into a couple categories, each inspired by every corner of the world. Massages are personalized for total relaxation and to relieve muscle tension while other treatments focus on outward balance as well as inward. Facial treatments feature the latest anti-aging products for a fresh and young appearance. There are also seaweed wraps, mud wraps, detoxifying diets, reflexology and even colonic hydrotherapy for a whole body experience.
With a vast selection of high-tech equipment and treatments, the Vie Spa has much to offer the weary traveler.
The hotel has a Rooftop Pool with a retractable roof so guests can take a dip in any weather. The onsite gym is also well equipped.
For the leisure traveler, the hotel can arrange any tours or sightseeing excursions. I went on an eye opening day tour of Bahrain with a great guide.
The business facilities are more than fitting for a hotel nestled in the Diplomatic District. The Domain Bahrain has 8 meeting rooms which can accommodate groups of 4 up to 112 for conferences, presentations or cocktail parties. Each space is outfitted with wireless internet, complimentary Nespresso and tea facilities, electronic whiteboards, video conferencing and butler service.
Service at The Domain was impeccable. From check-in to check-out, the team took care of every detail of my stay and really made a difference in my Bahrain experience. Professional, courteous, and knowledgeable staff were also readily available to address any questions or needs.
Fantastic views, plenty of dining and drinking outlets, professional staff, and a unique club and hotel model really set The Domain apart from other luxury hotels. I certainly am looking forward to staying again and I highly recommend The Domain to guests expecting a more extravagant hotel experience in Bahrain.
