- Swanky interiors and design.
- Great location near diplomatic areas.
- Fine dining restaurants and bar selection.
Background
Right in the center of the city is the landmark hotel with 237 rooms and suites under the Kempinski management. A short taxi ride or even walk from the city center, the hotel is situated right on the bank of the Congo river in a quiet location with stunning views. The airport is about 45 minutes away.
Knowing the quality of Kempinski establishments, I was excited to see this African offering.
Experience
Coming from Congo across the river, I had a short drive to the property. On arrival I had a quick check in and settled into my room. I stayed in an Executive Deluxe Room on an upper floor. The first impression was the stunning views from the room. The king bed faced a flat screen TV and working desk. There was a separate lounge sofa with a table by the window. The room also features a safe, coffee/tea making facilities, and fast wifi.
The bathroom has a beautiful soaking tub, shower and modern sink set up.
For breakfast the Riviera Restaurant provides a daily buffet with live cooking stations of international and Congolese cuisine which include fresh fish from the river. The Lobby Lounge is serenaded by piano music and offers pastries and drinks. Next to the pool is the Hevea Grill serving Mediterranean cuisine, bar snacks and drinks. K Sports Bar is open in the evenings and focuses the sports crowd with flat screen TVs, pool tables and bar food.
The pool is a welcome respite from the heat. Lounges surround the pool for suntanning and sipping on a cocktail. A gym has modern equipment and a yoga room. There are also two tennis courts available for guests. Other nearby activities include Kinshasa’s 18 hole golf course, National Museum and other tourist attractions.
For business guests, the hotel has the only auditorium in the city for large events and conferences. The rooms set-ups include modern technology and internet. There is also a Business Center in house.
Service was as expected excellent. From check in to the management, I was greeted with respect and a smile.
With several options in the large capital city, the Kempinski stands out as the most well known and luxurious property whether for business or leisure. With incredible views, lavish interiors and rooms, classy restaurants and several activities, selecting this property to call home while in the DRC is an obvious choice.
