Background

Novotel Orisha Cotonou Hotel is located in the capital and largest city of Benin in a secure compound along with its sister hotel, Ibis. This four-star hotel has 110 rooms and recently joined the Planet 21 innovations program to take an active role in implementing sustainable development. A new hotel of international standards would be the perfect place for me to base our tour of Cotonou.

Experience

We arrived by car from Togo which was quite a drive, but the hotel is very close to the airport. There is a free shuttle service as well. The compound seemed well guarded and managed.

Check in was a breeze.

We stayed in a Standard Room which featured a large king sized bed, a pull out couch, a working space, flat screen TV with cable, and fast and free internet access. The minimalist design showed neutral tones and modern splashes of colors. Rooms are also pet friendly!

The bathroom was very stylish with wood floors beneath the sink and shower.

A breakfast buffet is available in the main restaurant, Orisha. Lunch and dinner options are also offered with a variety of international dishes. Pendjari is the outdoor bar serving the pool and lounge area.

The outdoor pool area is an escape of its own. You’ll find wooden loungers with umbrellas and a walkway into the grassy marsh ending at a private pavilion. The atmosphere is really serene and relaxing. If you prefer the beach, it is a short distance away. There are some shops in the lobby if you want to grab a souvenir or tourist shirt.

Tours can be arranged from the hotel to explore the sights of Benin.

The staff is also very eager to please. I had to print out a boarding pass and the reception helped me out despite issues with their printer.

For business travelers, the hotel has six meeting rooms that can accommodate up to 300 people.

The Novotel Orisha Cotonou Hotel stands out as a modern, functional, and convenient stay whether for tourism or business. The pool area and views of the sea plus the sleek interiors made for a very memorable stay.
