Background
The Golden Tulip is a well known international brand and the Accra property has seamlessly integrated an African style while maintaining the brand’s high standards. Located minutes from the airport, this four-star hotel is in a safe and quiet neighborhood away from the busy traffic of the center of the city, which is a ten minute ride away. Coming from the Ivory Coast, I was excited to explore Ghana from the comfort of this hotel.
Experience
With 238 rooms the hotel can support many guests and has a spacious area with plenty of green so that it doesn’t feel crowded.
My room featured a king sized bed, a seating area, and a desk with a flat screen TV. Coffee and tea making facilities were available, as well as fast wifi, minibar, and a safe. The bathroom had a shower/tub combination with complete Golden Tulip amenities.
The Branche Restaurant is the main restaurant of the hotel serving international and Ghanaian cuisine. The buffet breakfast has plenty of options to please your taste buds. Make sure you get a table outside if it is not too hot to enjoy the fresh air.
On Saturday nights the Branche Lounge offers an evening of dancing and music. The pool area turns into a gathering place for locals and visitors to mingle over a cocktail or beer.
The Golden Tulip offers an array of activities to keep you entertained during your stay. There’s a casino right in the lobby if you’re feeling lucky. Shops and tour offices can be found in main building. There are tennis courts to use as well as a gym. My preferred activity was enjoying the pool and poolside loungers with a cocktail. Whether during the day or night, this area was popular and fun. On Wednesday or Saturday evenings there is soft jazz or African beats to create a lively atmosphere.
Right outside the hotel are activities in easy reach such as the Marina Mall and La Pleasure Beach which has cultural drum and dance performances during the high season.
The staff were always eager to help and very friendly. Whether I needed directions or a recommendation, there was always someone available to assist me.
The hotel also caters to business guests with a business lounge, several conference rooms and terraces that can be customized to host up to 1,000 guests.
The Golden Tulip of Accra is an exceptional hotel for both business and pleasure. With a great pool area, a casino, friendly service, comfortable rooms, and a convenient location, I would recommend a stay here if visiting Ghana.
