Experience
The original building of the Kaunas Hotel is from the late 19th century. The façade of the old architecture still stands with modern additions such as the steel and glass constructed top floor. Updates and renovations have continually been made over the years, some as recently as the summer of 2014 when many of the Standard Rooms were refurbished and modernized. With a great location in the center, I looked forward to the experience.
Flying in straight from Cagliari, we arrived in the late evening by taxi. The driver took us right to the back entrance to check in. The front desk staff processed the check in very quickly and also gave us a few tips on the town if we went out at night.
Kaunas Hotel has Deluxe, Standard, Suites and Executive Suites available with views of beautiful Liberty Avenue (Laisves Aleja) which are highlighted with floor to ceiling windows. The rooms are bright and spacious with either classic or Scandinavian styling. Every room enjoys the little luxuries like satellite TV, mini bar and wireless internet.
On entering the room there is a wardrobe and hallway. A work desk and TV is facing the bed with large windows on the right.
The bathroom had a shower/bath combination, a toilet and a large counter with a double sink. It has a heated floor which is ideal for the cold winters.
On the ground floor of the Kaunas Hotel sits the Fitness Center which is open early until late. Access to the facilities is complimentary with a Deluxe Suite and Executive Suite booking and a small fee for those staying in a Standard Room. The gym is filled with the latest Technogym equipment to tone or build muscle. Adjacent to the gym is the sauna and heated pool which includes turbo-jets and water massage features.
Kaunas Hotel’s Restaurant “55°” provides the main breakfast buffet for the hotel but also offers late night service. It focuses on traditional dishes and is themed around a Lithuanian moonshine, Saman. The walls of the hotel are painted featuring the various production and consumption stages of the spirit. The décor reflects the restaurants own affinity for the drink and the theater associated with serving to its guests. The traditional and international dishes perfectly pair for an unforgettable meal.
The reception team is quite helpful and can address any needs and questions.
The hotel is also located right on the main road and is a short walk from the main sights in the old city.
I would recommend the 4-star Kaunas Hotel to visitors looking for modern comforts, health facilities, and a great location, while also wanting to experience the local cuisine and moonshine.
