Background
When thinking of Bangui, Central African Republic, a luxury hotel may be the last thing to come to mind, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist! The Laico Ledger Plaza is a five star hotel of international standards in the center of Bangui. Knowing the rocky situation in the country, I was glad to find a safe option for my visit.
Experience
Located about 10 km from the Bangui M Poko International Airport the hotel offers complementary airport transfers. After the short drive to the hotel, I was impressed on entering the property. The well maintained green lawns were such a contrast to the dirty roads right outside the gates.
I checked in and settled into my room. A king sized bed was the centerpiece of the lavish room. Facing a powder desk and flatscreen TV mounted on the wall. A small seating area is set next to the large windows overlooking the courtyard.
The classy marbled bathroom had a sink and shower/tub combination. A hairdryer and make up mirror were available.
Wifi connection was strong and the cable television had a reliable connection.
The property had several dining options for its guests. La Colline Restaurant serves an international breakfast buffet in an indoor or outdoor space next to the pool. Lunch and dinner are also available. I found the bakery on the first floor makes tasty fresh bread.
Coffee Lounge Bar serves snacks and drinks throughout the day. Bar Ambassadeur is the place to meet up for a drink at the end of the day.
Within the compound there are quite a few options for activities. The swimming pool is a great place to spend the day on a lounge chair soaking up some sun. You’ll forget you’re in Bangui. A well equipped gym is popular in the evenings so go during the day time if you can for a more private workout. Towards the back of the property is the tennis court. A spa offers several treatments and massages. Make sure you book ahead. I heard that on the weekends the hotel even has a nightclub though I didn’t get to check it out.
If you are visiting for business, which the majority of guests are, you’ll find a business center and many options for meetings and events. The banquet hall can accommodate 350 guests or up to 400 guests in a cocktail set up.
Service in the hotel was very professional and courteous especially in the restaurant.
If visiting Bangui, this hotel is really the only luxury choice and the safest of the city. Fortunately even with their monopoly, they still provide quality services and facilities to match international five star properties around the world. After staying at the Laico Ledger Plaza, I can’t imagine another place to call home in Bangui.
