Background
The city of Aksum (or Axum) has been one of UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites since 1980. It has also been a world trading center since ancient times and is considered one of the oldest continually inhabited cities in Africa. The Sabean International Hotel is located in the middle of Aksum which makes it the ideal spot to experience the city and its rich history. Nearby destinations include a church which was said to once house the Arc of the Covenant as well as ruins of the Palace of Sheba.
Experience
There are 44 rooms at the Sabean International Hotel including four Suites. I stayed in one of the Twin Rooms. The room was contemporary while still featuring some Ethiopian motifs with golden accents on dark wood furniture. The bathroom had a stand-up shower, toilet, and sink.
Each room is fully equipped with luxuries like satellite TV, high speed internet, and mini bar. Rooms also have a desk which can be used as a work area. Some rooms also have some nice balcony space overlooking the lively street life.
The central location of the Sabean International Hotel makes it pretty easy to find a restaurant in the area but the hotel also has an in-house restaurant which is conveniently open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. There is also a lounge area where guests can enjoy a relaxing drink near the lobby.
For more formal meetings or conferences, Sabean International Hotel has a few facilities that can suit both small and large groups. The hotel staff is always close by to make sure events runs smoothly.

The Sabean International Hotel is big hotel in an ancient city. Ethiopian motifs run throughout the hotel, from the decorations to the cuisine. With clean and contemporary rooms, a central location, and onsite tours the Sabean is a great choice for a visit to Axum.
