Experience

Holiday Inn Skopje is a 5-star hotel situated in the middle of the city. Recently renovated in 2012, the hotel is a modern choice in a great location. Based on the well known brand, I looked forward to see how the Holiday Inn operated in Skopje.

Coming from Sofia, we arrived in the evening and at the check-in were quickly processed and shown our rooms.

We stayed in a Junior Suite featuring a finely finished and welcoming living room space with comfortable sofa, satellite TV, a large work area, free wireless internet, and minibar. This lead to the bedroom which had a large king bed.

The bathroom features a warm color palette and includes a bathtub, sink, bidet and even a scale. The Presidential Suite even has a private Jacuzzi bath.

The next morning, we went for breakfast downstairs.

The Holiday Inn Skopje offers two dining options for visitors, the Restaurant Iris and Restaurant Ogniste. The first is a modern establishment which served national and international cuisine for lunch and dinner. The friendly staff can also recommend fantastic wine pairings for your meal from the hotel’s collection of local and international wine collection. The larger Restaurant Ogniste is a Macedonian national restaurant featuring traditional interior décor and pleasant atmosphere.

After breakfast we explored the property.

Downstairs the Health and Fitness Center contains all the equipment guests might need for a full workout such as treadmills, stair climbers and fly weights. After a workout, relax in the sauna.

The location of the hotel is very central and only a 5 minute walk from the rail station. It is also well within walking distance of the government offices and financial institutions making it a perfect choice for business travelers.

Skopje Old Town is also nearby which features popular sites like the 15th century Stone Bridge, Old Bazaar mosques and a covered market. The front desk team provided a map and plan to see the sights.

The “must see” list for Skopje is long and varied enough to include something for everyone. The Skopje Kale Fortress was restored in 1963 after an earthquake damaged the Byzantine watchtowers and walls. The structure includes ornate gardens that look over the River Vardar running through the city. Also close by is the Old Bazaar and covered Bezisten market where you can stroll through with a mouth watering kebab or relax with a Turkish tea.

The Holiday Inn Skopje delivers a comfortable stay with a familiar international brand. I would recommend this hotel to any travelers visiting the city for business or pleasure.
